My Story

My name is Lindsey and I am a lactation and sleep counselor, as well as a registered nurse with both NICU and OBGYN experience. Here is my why.

After my my first child was born, my milk came in fine at first, but within a day or two my supply had dropped drastically. I was devastated and didn’t know what I was doing wrong. I had thought breastfeeding would come naturally, but I was struggling so much with both the physical and mental exhaustion that came with it and I had zero guidance.

After a few days of struggling at home and supplementing with formula, I made an appointment with a lactation specialist from the hospital and I will never forget the way she made me feel. She told me that my supply was too low to feed my baby and that some women just didn’t make enough milk. She told me that I would likely not be able to breastfeed any future children either. Feeling like a failure of a mother, I cried for hours that day and for weeks after. I did everything I could to try and keep my supply up, even using prescription meds, but eventually it dried up and he was given formula from then on. When he was 4 months old we finally got some answers about his feeding issues. It turns out he had a lip and tongue tie - my supply was NOT the problem! He wasn’t transferring milk properly, leading to a drop in my supply and reflux issues for him.

My supply wasn’t the only problem. His sleeping was also a major issue. His naps were short and infrequent, it took us over an hour to put him to sleep every night, and he was waking up multiple times throughout the night! We were so tired and felt like we were struggling with every single aspect of the newborn stage. After several months, we finally learned some sleep techniques and put them to the test. Some of them worked, others did not, but we did decided to sleep train him at 5 months old and it helped so much! He began sleeping for 12 hours a night and it no longer took an hour to put him to sleep each night.

My daughter was born 2 years later and even though she spent the first month of her life in the NICU, away from me, I was still able to produce plenty of milk for her. I was even able to pump enough to save several months worth of milk in the freezer for her! And, learning all we had about sleep techniques with our first child, we were able to implement better sleep habits from the very beginning with her. She never required any sleep training at all and we were able to tackle each regression with more grace and patience.

My goal now is to support families during the prenatal and postpartum period and help ease them into parenthood. I want to give parents (and babies) the best sleep and feeding habits from the very beginning to help make this parenting thing just a little bit easier.
